Humanity has appeared a monk who has attained enlightenment like Buddha
Many great elder monks practice very diligently but still
cannot reach the final destination of mastering cause and effect, mastering the
body, many people are still controlled by cause and effect, sick, have to sit
in wheelchairs, suffer themselves, need someone to take care of old age.
The Venerable Elder Thich Thong Lac
- Mastering Life - Aging - Sickness - Death - as Buddha taught
After three months of summer retreat at Chon Khong Zen
Monastery, he went to Hon Son off the coast of Rach Gia, Kien Giang, climbed Ma
Thien Lanh peak, ate forest leaves, drank spring water, and practiced Zen
Buddhism alone for nine months. However, he still missed his mother so much
that he returned to Trang Bang, lived with his mother and continued to
practice.
Although he practiced diligently, because he did not follow the right Dharma, he did not see liberation. After finishing his practice, his mind was still troubled, he had to go to the doctor for illness, and taking medicine could not control his life and death. He was very depressed, he no longer wanted to live, 10 years in the monastery were very difficult, in the end he only had a few ideas to reason about winning and losing; he knew his past and future very clearly, but to be a fortune teller? He wanted to die, but his mother was still alive, and it would be unfilial to die.
THE VENERABLE ELDER FOUND AND STARTED TO PRACTICE HIMSELF ACCORDING TO THE RIGHT DHARMA
At that time, He was in a state of almost going crazy, He
took out the bilingual Middle Length Discourses translated by Venerable Thich
Minh Chau and read them. But when He read the sentences: "If the mind is
directed to thinking about something else, the evil in the present will be
destroyed", for example: Illness and pain are the law of cause and effect,
are impermanent, I am not afraid of illness and pain, I am not afraid of death,
let illness and pain leave my body. He seemed to awaken and immediately applied
it to his monastic life.
He himself practices the right Dharma – using the Dharma of Right Intention: “Mind like the earth, let go of greed, anger, and ignorance to be completely pure.” Thanks to such intention, his mind turns to concentrate on the body day and night without sleep, always knowing the breath in and out and feeling the whole body. At this very moment, his mind is contemplating the body, which means he is practicing the Four Foundations of Mindfulness without knowing it. The mind is concentrated on the body for 6 months, when walking, standing, lying, sitting, eating, drinking, he knows only that one mind.
ATTAINMENT – MASTERING BIRTH, OLD AGE, SICKNESS, AND DEATH
One day, in that pure mind, 4 supernatural powers appear, he
immediately knows clearly, but that knowledge is not the knowledge of
consciousness, but that knowledge is the consciousness aggregate, so he uses
that supernatural power to enter the 4 concentrations of Form and practice the
Three Knowledges. He completely masters Birth, Old Age, Sickness, and Death and
ends the cycle of birth and death. He knows that there is only this one life
left. His mind was free of any greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance, or doubt.
After six months with a simple intention, he achieved an unexpectedly great success. This success opened the door for the Humanistic Ethics - Cause and Effect of Buddhism to be born.
He opened the door of his room and went out to become a
glorious Victor, after more than 10 years of confining himself in solitude. He
went to his mother and said: "From now on, you don't need to bring food
into the room, because I will come out here to eat with you. I have finished my
practice."
He attained mastery over life and death on the 9th day of
the 9th lunar month, 1980. At the end of 1980, after 3 months of being guided
by him in his practice, his mother passed away peacefully.
Further explanation:
1. Mastering life (life - daily life): that is, mastering
oneself, living without greed - anger - ignorance, arrogance, doubt.
2. Mastering old age: When old, do not lose memory, be
clear-minded.
3. Mastering illness: when sick, use the right method of
intention (If you intend to another form, the current unwholesome form will be
destroyed), for example: When sick, use the power of consciousness to chase the
illness away. Illness is the law of cause and effect, feelings are impermanent,
I am not afraid of illness, not afraid of death, let the illness leave my body.
This arm hurts, this is the law of cause and effect, feelings are impermanent,
I am not afraid of pain, let the illness and pain leave my body, chase the
illness away, do not let the illness come near, do not sit in a wheelchair, do
not lie in a hospital bed, do not bother others to take care of you.
4. When the body is weak and wants to end life, enter the
fourth meditation, enter the magnetic field of nirvana, order the body to stop
breathing, end life, and not cause trouble or suffering to others. - If you
cannot master these four sufferings, you are not practicing correctly. Buddhism
was born to master these four sufferings. If you could not master these four
sufferings, Buddhism would not have been born, because being born would not
help or benefit sentient beings.
REBUILDING THE TEMPLE AND REVIVING THE TRUE DHARMA
From here, he focused on reviving Buddhism:
- The first thing was to renovate the old Temple, named Chon
Nhu Monastery.
– The second thing is to rectify the spirit of the Dharma path of Buddha Shakyamuni from his own practice experience. He has compiled many books specializing in teaching the ethics of Humanism – Cause and Effect and 37 methods of practice to master Birth, Aging, Illness, and Death for practitioners and Buddhists from within and outside the country.
The life of the Venerable Elder Thich Thong Lac spanned 44 years full of hardships and challenges. The storms of The Chơn Như Monastery arose many times, but he always held the oars with a steady hand and an Immovable Mind to steer the Chơn Như Monastery boat to the shore of peace. Thanks to that, the Chơn Như Monastery has always been steadfast, majestic and has grown more and more.
THE VENERABLE ELDER ENTERED NIRVANA
At exactly 0:00 on January 2, 2013, the Venerable Elder Thich Thong Lac entered Nirvana, leaving his physical body and entering Nirvana after entrusting the responsibility to future generations to continue the mission of preserving the True Nature of the Buddha. With the Master's passion: "Chơn Như will still be the place to rebuild the Humanistic ethics - Cause and Effect of living without causing suffering to oneself, others and all living beings. This place will forever go down in the history of the Vietnamese people and humanity in the world".
Now and forever, the light of the Dharma of Buddha
Shakyamuni, rebuilt by the Elder Thich Thong Lac, still exists on this planet.
In the motionless magnetic field, He still lives forever!
